I’m a Canadian ex-pat living in Japan (I’ve also lived in France, and briefly in Australia).  I teach English to pay the bills, but my real love is photography and travel.  I’ve been a photographer for as long as I remember.  I was the unofficial family photographer for many years, and was basically the yearbook photographer throughout high school.  When I first moved to Japan I couldn’t understand why my photos didn’t look like the ones out of National Geographic, and I soon realized I needed to get away from point and shoot cameras. I wanted more control.  I wanted to know that if I had a great picture, it was because of my decisions, not the camera’s. Similarly, if I had a bad photo, it was because of me, not the camera.  So I got my friends to help me choose a camera at the local used camera store, and I’ve been hooked ever since.  Even though digital cameras were beginning to get more popular at that time, they didn’t really interest me at all.  And I have to say, they still don’t.  I’m not anti-digital, I just love film and film cameras.  I’ll keep shooting with them for as long as I can.

I try to travel as much as I can.  Being a teacher, I have plenty of holidays, but not money. I’ve mostly travelled around Asia, since it’s so accessible from Japan, but I did have a chance to explore Europe when I lived in France.  Now, most of my personal travel is based around photography.  So most of the posts here will be about …travel and photography.
